I need to fend

Sometimes the mind wanders off on a lonely path,
Chirping birds on the side, puddles of water on the way,
Clouds shower errant, as someone held a switch,
earthly fragrances of rain, becloud the mind.
Passing by the hillside, staring into the horizon,
Gorges of the hills, less deep than of the mind,
Sounds of rapids gushing in the distance.
The sounds bemuse, fragrances form a memory,
yet the dream never left the eyelid,
I wake up to reality, some milestones depend,
I need to fend, I need to fend!

Some dreams feel real, some realities dreamy,
Abstractions to love, timetables to abhor,
Like a worker bee, journey towards certain death,
Until the bones crack, muscles give up,
Float from flower to flower, a duty to fulfill.
Sometimes alone, sometimes lonely in a crowd,
chaos seems beautiful, order seems tasteless,
Larks too dangerous, lines too boring.
Yet need to constrict a wavering mind,
I cannot hide, cannot let fate decide,
I have to provide, I have to provide.

Some choices are tough, some partings easy,
some dreams remain, some realities disappear,
not every mirage can I seek solace from,
Like a wanderer, roaming desolate sands,
Sunrise a new hope, sunset a new challenge.
Seeking lull from a storm, shelter in a wasteland,
serenity in desolation, strangled in isolation.
Not every fountain can quench thirst,
Not every damsel in distress my dame,
I need to be jolted, I need to blink.
I need to bethink, I need to bethink.
