When you decided to walk into midnight’s wilderness,
your footsteps vanished in the mist of the night,
your perfumed scent merged in the chill of the mist,
your voice trailed away into the silence of the night,
all I heard was my heartbeat, my painful exhalation,
All I could see around, my darkness’s reflection.
I whispered your name to the passing by wind,
distance so far that even a scream won’t reach,
Hoping you hear my voice in a thunder or a breeze,
Walls between us, no gentle wind can breach.
My echo returned empty handed in solemn despair,
Stuck in whirlpools of angst, searching within nowhere.
Torrid teardrops turned to vapour inside the eye,
Memories remained vivid, erasing I tried,
Visions turned dreams, dreams to nightmares,
My eyes wanted to meet yours, “just once more” I cried.
As you walked away, on a journey to diverge,
One step at a time, never to converge.
I traced your footprints in the sands of time,
Every minute was a new loop, right where I began,
What seemed your footprints were remnants of mine,
Ahead of my footsteps, my memories foreran,
the gusts of desolation overpowering my will,
if the endless loop would end, would time stand still.
You vanished in thin air like a magician’s prestige,
You wouldn’t return, nowhere to be found.
I reached out into emptiness, filled a void with another,
A tryst with loneliness as I held on to shaky ground,
All I could wish, in mind’s embers you would STAY,
As a confounded wish, a compounded memory, you’d STAY.
PS: I have to dedicate this poem to Hans Zimmer who was the composer for dozens of my favorite OSTs, and the soundtrack STAY from Interstellar hooked me up to write this poem. Was listening to this song for 2 days long when I wrote this poem.
